webupd8team/java. That PPA is dead. Starting with IRPF 2020, the Linux installer .bin already includes the JRE. Below: IRPF 2026 (calendar year 2025), downloaded from gov.br.The lion still lives on Linux. The Receita Federal's tax return preparation program (PGD) runs on x86_64 with the official installer. You can also file through e-CAC, without downloading anything, or in the Receita Federal app. This post covers the PGD approach on Ubuntu/Debian.

Receita Federal page: Download the Income Tax Program. Choose Linux (.bin), 64-bit. The name changes with each patch — in September 2026 the file is IRPF2026Linux-x86_64v1.5.sh.bin. Check the name on the page before running wget.
Official instructions: Installation instructions. Since IRPF 2020, Java has been bundled in the .bin. Do not install the Oracle PPA, do not run sudo on the installer.
Install as a regular user

The graphical wizard asks for the folder. The default is ~/ProgramasRFB/IRPF2026. Click Next until finished. Desktop shortcut: if GNOME refuses, right-click → Allow Launching.

Cross-platform ZIP and Flatpak
If .bin hangs (Wayland, a distro without 32-bit libraries, etc.), Receita Federal offers the cross-platform ZIP on the same page. In that case, you do need Java on the system (11+):

There is a community package on Flathub (br.gov.fazenda.receita.irpf2026). It is not an official RFB package. Prefer the .bin from gov.br.
Without installing
You can also file your return through e-CAC (Meu Imposto de Renda) and the Receita Federal app. PGD is still useful for those who prefer a local program, an amended return for a previous year, or an offline machine.
