Anyone still saying “.NET Core 10” has the history right — the Core name ended at 3.1. Since 5, the platform has been called simply .NET. 10 came out on November 11, 2025, is LTS until November 14, 2028, and in September 2026, the stable SDK is 10.0.400 (runtime 10.0.11, C# 14). Below: Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora/RHEL, the official script, and a tarball — just one path, without mixing feeds.
SDK or just the runtime
For development, install the SDK (dotnet-sdk-10.0). It already includes the runtime and ASP.NET Core. To only run a published app without a bundled runtime, the most useful package is aspnetcore-runtime-10.0. Check what is already on the machine:
dotnet --info
dotnet --list-sdks
dotnet --list-runtimes
Ubuntu (the distribution’s route)
Microsoft no longer publishes .NET packages in its feed for Ubuntu 22.04 onward. Use Canonical’s APT — and a single feed. On 24.04 LTS, 25.04, 25.10, and 26.04, 10 is already in the native repository:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y dotnet-sdk-10.0
dotnet --version
On Ubuntu 22.04 the native APT stops at 8. 10 comes from Canonical’s backports PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dotnet/backports
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y dotnet-sdk-10.0
Do not add packages.microsoft.com “just in case.” Mixing Microsoft’s feed with the distribution’s is the classic cause of libhostfxr.so / SDK not found. Choose one.
Debian 12 and 13
Here, Microsoft’s feed still applies. Debian 13:
wget https://packages.microsoft.com/config/debian/13/packages-microsoft-prod.deb -O packages-microsoft-prod.deb
sudo dpkg -i packages-microsoft-prod.deb
rm packages-microsoft-prod.deb
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y dotnet-sdk-10.0
On Debian 12, change the path to config/debian/12/packages-microsoft-prod.deb. The 10 feed publishes x64 and Arm64; Arm32 requires the script or tarball.
Fedora, RHEL, and CentOS Stream
Native package, no extra repository. Fedora 43/44, RHEL 8/9/10 (AppStream, registered subscription), and CentOS Stream 9/10:
sudo dnf install dotnet-sdk-10.0
On the server, if the app does not include the runtime when published: sudo dnf install aspnetcore-runtime-10.0.
Official script or tarball (any distribution)
No root, no messing with APT. The script installs the current LTS — today, 10 — in ~/.dotnet:
curl -L https://dot.net/v1/dotnet-install.sh -o dotnet-install.sh
chmod +x dotnet-install.sh
./dotnet-install.sh --channel 10.0
echo 'export DOTNET_ROOT=$HOME/.dotnet' >> ~/.profile
echo 'export PATH=$PATH:$HOME/.dotnet:$HOME/.dotnet/tools' >> ~/.profile
source ~/.profile
dotnet --version
The SDK 10.0.400 tarball (same contents, you choose the folder):
case $(uname -m) in
x86_64) ARCH=x64 ;;
aarch64) ARCH=arm64 ;;
*) echo "arch não suportada"; exit 1 ;;
esac
VER=10.0.400
cd /tmp
curl -fLO "https://builds.dotnet.microsoft.com/dotnet/Sdk/${VER}/dotnet-sdk-${VER}-linux-${ARCH}.tar.gz"
mkdir -p "$HOME/.dotnet"
tar -C "$HOME/.dotnet" -xzf "/tmp/dotnet-sdk-${VER}-linux-${ARCH}.tar.gz"
The same PATH as with the script. Each file’s SHA-256 checksum is on the 10.0 download page.
Snap (if the distribution only has snap)
Canonical packages dotnet-sdk-100. It works, but Microsoft itself warns: dotnet tool and dotnet watch often break with snap. Prefer APT, dnf, or the script for development.
sudo snap install dotnet-sdk-100
sudo ln -s /snap/dotnet-sdk-100/current/usr/bin/dotnet /usr/local/bin/dotnet
export DOTNET_ROOT=/snap/dotnet-sdk-100/current/usr/lib/dotnet
Do not mix snap and APT in the same PATH.
Hello, net10.0
With the SDK in PATH:
dotnet new console -n OlaLinux -o ola --framework net10.0
cd ola
dotnet run
The template already generates a .csproj with TargetFramework net10.0. Web: dotnet new webapi -n ApiLinux. Starting with 10, dotnet new sln creates the SLNX format — it is the new default, not an error.
Wrap-up
One package (dotnet-sdk-10.0) or one script in ~/.dotnet. Just one feed. One dotnet new. Core in the name is nostalgia; the platform on Linux, in 2026, is .NET 10 LTS.
