Hi, I’m Nilton Oliveira — a Linux infrastructure specialist, self-taught programmer, and open-source evangelist. I’ve been running Linux systems since 1999, which means more than 25 years of terminals, servers, and the occasional 3 a.m. incident.
The short version
I work as a senior DevOps and infrastructure analyst in São Paulo, Brazil — currently at Bionexo — managing environments built almost entirely on Linux: Debian, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE and friends, from bare metal to the cloud. I write code in Golang, Python, Perl, PHP and Bash, usually to automate away the boring parts of infrastructure.
This blog, LinuxPro, is where I share what I learn: hands-on tutorials about Linux, servers, e-mail, DevOps and, these days, running AI workloads on your own hardware.
How it all started
My Linux journey began with Slackware, moved through Mandrake with KDE, and really caught fire with Kurumin Linux, the legendary Brazilian distribution by Carlos Morimoto. I was fascinated by Kurumin’s “magic scripts” and needed to know how they worked — that curiosity pulled me into Perl (the natural next step after Bash), then Python, and eventually Golang.
I helped in the Kurumin community forums, contributed to the Kurumin-NG project, and translated Ubuntu packages in the early days alongside my good friend Og Maciel. Since then I’ve contributed documentation, translations, scripts and bug reports to projects like XenServer, Samba4, ISPConfig 3 and NagiosQL.

Education and certifications
I hold an IT degree from Centro Universitário Nove de Julho (Uninove). Certifications and training along the way include LPIC-1, ITIL, SUSE Certified Linux Administrator, IPv6 (NIC.br), NetApp storage, and plenty of networking, hardware and electronics courses.
Teaching
I created two hands-on courses on Udemy, in Portuguese:

Beyond the terminal
Before IT took over, I dabbled in gymnastics, animation, comic drawing and photography. I’m an avid reader and a video game lover — the geeky side is not a bug, it’s a feature.
